The Bread from Heaven Broken and Eaten
(Matthew 14: 13-21
Oh bread of life, Oh bread
of heaven
Satisfy our hunger and
thirst,
Of your Most Holy Body and
Blood
Offer everyday at the
Altar.
When you saw the hungry
crowds,
You took pity on them..
Instead of driving them away,
to villages to buy their
own food.
You said to your Apostles,
You give them something to
eat
But the Apostles replied,
We have only five loaves of
bread and two fish.
How can you feed these many
people,
with just five loaves of
bread and two fish?
Unlike in the old golden
days of Israelites
in the desert God fed them
with manna and meat.
But You, O Lord and Savior
After you said, “Bring them
to me.”
Taking the five loaves and
the two fish
You looked up to heaven, to
God who gives.
With your raised hands and
eyes to heaven
You said the prayer of blessing
the meal
Broke the loaves of bread,
except the two fish
You gave them to your
Apostles.
The Apostles distributed the
broken bread
to the seated crowds on the
green grass.
They all ate and all
satisfied and filled,
With the Broken
Bread and fish.
